Setting up a Little Library… On Books and Treasures

Do you remember the saying that we so often like to quote?

“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.”

Our Foundation’s Literacy Mascots take it quite literally, and for the last few years they try to bring books to as many children as they can, personally. They bring books to families they meet, to orphans they visit, they speak about reading and excitement of being able to read everywhere they go.

Today, we will share a few pictures from Sofia, Arthur and Yvan’s visit to a small orphanage in Baja California, Mexico, where they worked on setting up an addition to the library we started, adding another bookshelf, organizing the books and spending time reading the books with the children there.

Some children there speak good English, some only learning, but for all, learning English and learning to read is an important skill, and having beginner books is very motivating and helpful.

In addition, caregivers are using Little Reader curricula with children there for learning English as a second language and learning reading!
