Using Little Reader programs for learning English in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Global Projects > Cambodia

We use Little Reader program and curricula in both schools in Siem Reap.

Little Reader lessons are used both in the English classroom for the main computer/tv and in the IT lab on all of the individual computers. We were able to get headphones to go with all of the computers in the IT lab at Sandan school!

The children studying in level one and level two of our English programs in both schools, (mostly 3rd and 4th graders) have Little Reader incorporated into the curriculum.

The teacher projects it on the large screen TV and they go through the vocabulary flash programs, pausing and repeating either in groups or individually. They play the matching games together, either as individuals or in teams.

The teacher clicks on one frame of the game, then the student comes up and tries to select the right picture. The children really enjoy it!

Then they can reinforce their lessons with personal time reviewing on the computer, during IT class!

Sandan Primary School at Siem Reap

Every weekday we have 8 English classes for the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders. About 200 students participate in the program. The goal is to provide as complete and multifaceted education as possible for rural children at the primary school level.

Statics show that although the numbers are on the rise, still the majority of Cambodian children do not complete high school and the drop out rate is high. For many children, primary school education is all they will have a chance to receive.
